Quiltegården in Trondheim

I simply had to visit Quiltegården in Trondheim. We had a late longlasting breakfast at Gunnhild's flat before we drove downtown Trondheim. We managed to fit a quick half an hour at Quiltegården Quilt Shop.

Wow - what a find!

The quilt shop was so welcoming and very generous in all the displayed quilts and fabrics. We could have stayed for hours - unfortunately Gunnhild had to go to her work as a midwife and I had a train to catch! 

This Christmas Stitchery welcomed us as we walked through the door of this beautiful shop!

 

And here is a another beautiful Christmas-corner of Quiltegården! Everywhere we turned there were more lovely designs, fabrics and kits to inspire!

We haven't seen each other since the Summer of 2008.....

Some years ago she made this quilt for her youngest son (she's got 3). Beatiful bright colors!

She has used a lot of black ribbons in this quilt. And all quilting is made by hand :-)

Her "baby"...... I'm not very found of dogs, but this one I simply love!

We spent Thursday night (untill very late) and Friday morning by chatting and smiling. Some redvine in the evening and a lot of coffee in the morning were drunk while we had a lot of talking to catch up with. We should meet more often, that's for sure. You are a beatiful woman Gunnhild; both outward and inside!!!

My disappearing nine-patch tablerunner is finished

Finally I finished this tablerunner. I used many different coffee-fabrics from Moda. These were precut in Charm Squares and this made it very easy to sew nine-patches. If you want a tutorial for disappearing nine-patch, visit Quilts & ACTs.

I made a label saying "sewn by Elin Synnøve 2009".

I freemotion quilted the tablerunner. I wanted the quilting to look like steam from friendly coffeecups.....

I used Mettlers Poly Sheen Multi col.9972 for the quilting.

I hope Merethe will enjoy her 40th birtday present from me.

ODE TO A QUILTER’S HUSBAND

The husband of this quilter is a very special, patient guy—

Who doesn’t complain about how much fabric his wife may buy.

Through the years he’s picked up a lot of quilting lore—

Because on this subject his wife can get to be quite a bore.

He’s learned better than to throw away any old odd shaped scrap—

Because it’s likely that’s the one she’ll need to fill her design gap.

He know if he enters the quilting room his feet will get pins in—

And he’s learned there’s not just red, but brick, rust, scarlet and crimson.

He knows how she snorts when she sees an ordinary bedspread—

Cuz in HER house there’s only personally designed quilts instead.

He knows when she meets another quilter there’ll be fast and furious talkin’—

And at a quilt show there’ll be lots of scribbling and gawkin’.

He thinks of quilt-mania as a kind of creative affliction—

That can only be controlled by regular doses of stitchin’.

He knows she quilts for enjoyment, not for money,

Cuz she does quilts that are traditional, modern and some just plain funny!

And though all my cutting, designing, sewing and quilting through the years—

He’s always been interested, supportive, patient, and very, very dear. Thanks, honey

Sometimes it DOES take a Rocket Scientist!!

Scientists at Rolls Royce built a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners and military jets all travelling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.

American engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the American engineers.

When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back-rest in two and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin like an arrow shot from a bow.

The horrified Yanks sent Rolls Royce the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged for suggestions.

Rolls Royce responded with the following one-line memo: Defrost the chicken!

My wonderful daughter Synnøve is 20 years today :-)

I cannot give her any presents or cake because she is in Bali............., but she will get cake and presents when she returns home before Christmas!

Pink Ribbons days

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer in women worldwide.

In Norway 2761 new instances of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2007. I was one of the 2761!

In all 33889 women living in Norway have once been diagnosed with breast cancer. The breast cancer survival rate has increased, due to improvements in early diagnostic procedures followed by more tailored and/or more aggressive therapies. More patients are longterm survivors and live with the longterm side effects of the disease and treatment. Different rehabilitation programmes have been developed to treat the side effects occurring after the treatment of breast cancer. Although rehabilitation of breast cancer patients has been a priority during the last years, there still a need for evidence on which types of interventions are the most effectual.

Physical activity after primary cancer treatment may increase quality of life and reduce fatigue. Physical exercise and physiotherapy have been very important to me in order to manage to do my job and make life bearable; so thank you Gunnhild (my physiotherapist)! But only one physio-hour every third week is NOT TO MUCH!!!!

So when you see somebody with Pink Ribbon-action in your neightbourhood; think of us Pink ladies! Pink Ribbon is an international movement to promote breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for breast cancer research. The goal of the Norwegian Pink Ribbon movement is to express solidarity with those affeced by breast cancer, spread information and increase knowledge of breast cancer related issues as well as to raise funds for breast cancer research.

October has become the international breast cancer awareness month. Think PINK!

Jippy, I'm going to sew today :-)

I'm waiting for my very good friend Mette to turn up here. She is travelling from Lillehammer to Raufoss to spend the day sewing with me!!!!! GREAT.

I have made some lovely wheat buns for us, so we are going to have a breake with coffee and buns also. And a lot of sewingtalk :-)

I will take some photos of our sewing, that's for sure.
